Suzanne is a Professor in the School of Built Environment, Massey University, with a PhD in Construction Management and a BE (Hons) in Civil Engineering. She primarily works on projects in resilience and recovery, including recovery from disasters, recovery management, building back better, resilient organisations, resilient infrastructure, resilience governance and the management of the construction industry in disaster environments. She has extensive research and consulting experience including over 250 international and national publications and is a regular contributor of Build Magazine.
Suzanne is currently working on several Government (BRANZ, EQC, MBIE) funded projects, including on the Resilience to Nature’s Challenges, National Science Challenge – Urban programme. Suzanne has worked on disaster recovery research projects, including build back better, in Christchurch, Fiji, Samoa, Indonesia, US, China and Australia and currently has projects in Auckland and Christchurch, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia and Vietnam. From 2009-2017, Suzanne led a Bush Fire Recovery project which was a longitudinal study of the recovery and reconstruction following the 2009 Australian bushfires.
Suzanne is also the Director of Postgraduates at Massey University and leader of the Innovation, Resilience and Disasters Research Group.
